Corridor Modeling - Quickly Balance Cut and Fill

This blog has moved. Click Here to read this post and join us at I.II.I Professional Consulting Services where we are continuing our efforts in Paving the Way for your success.

Trying to balance cuts and fills along a new roadway surface as you design? Try the Composite Volumes Panorama.

Prerequisites: You’ll need an existing ground model, and a corridor surface.

1. From the Surfaces menu, select Utilities>Volumes to open the Composite Volumes Panorama.

2. Select the first icon (notice the tooltip) on the top left of the panorama to “Create new volume entry.”

3. Under “Surface Pair,” select your existing ground as the Base Surface, and select your corridor surface as your Comparison Surface. Take a look at the volume.

4. Change your profile – stretch it up, pull it down.

5. Back in the panorama, select the 5th icon from the left (notice the tooltip) to “recompute volumes,” and notice the difference.

Enjoy!
